36-year-old driver dead after I-75 crash

A 36-year-old man died in a crash that shut down Interstate 75 on Friday morning.

The crash happened around 1:35 a.m. in the northbound lanes past the Mt. Paran Road/Northside Drive exit in northwest Atlanta.

Channel 2’s Bryan Mims showed the scene on Channel 2 Action News This Morning as Atlanta police and the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office investigated the crash. All lanes reopened around 5:19 a.m.

Atlanta police said a driver in a Hyundai Sonata may have lost control and went off the highway. The driver hit a guardrail and tried to re-enter I-75 when he hit a GMC Sierra truck.

The Hyundai driver, 36, died at the scene. The passenger in his car is stable and the truck driver did not report serious injuries.

Police are still investigating what caused the driver to lose control. They have not identified him.
