ROSWELL, Ga. — A troubled apartment complex in Roswell will soon be demolished and rebuilt.
The city spent nearly a year relocating its residents because the building had so many structural problems.
Channel 2′s Bryan Mims spoke with a former tenant and a city council member who both say they are ready for what’s next for the property.

The building located at 199 Grove Way is now surrounded by fencing and all the apartments are vacant.
Sophia Ilyaeva was the last resident to vacate the building. Ilyaeva told Channel 2 Action News the roof in her apartment collapsed.
“I had problems here because my roof collapsed,” she said.
Since leaving the building, she has moved into a duplex.
All the other neighbors in the 40-unit building, operated by the Roswell Housing Authority, have found other homes.
City officials told Channel 2 Action News engineers routinely inspected the building to make sure it was still safe for tenants who were waiting to move and that all tenants had federal vouchers to pay for moving expenses.

Roswell City Council member Lee Hills said with everyone gone, the housing authority plans to demolish the building in the next couple of months.
The authority has also hired a developer to build a new apartment complex in its place, one exclusively for seniors with disabilities.
“So we’ll invite those that we’ve relocated out to come back if they so choose,” he said.
Construction on the new apartments is set to start in early 2024 and is expected to take about 18 months to complete.
Eventually, the housing authority also plans to replace the apartments across the street but they said that’s still a couple of years away.
