ATLANTA — If you thought winter was over, think again.
Severe Weather Team 2 is watching out for a strong cold front will move through Friday night into Saturday and temperatures will quickly drop across north Georgia.
The front also means a chance for snow flurries.
“These systems are always tricky – it’s a race between cold air moving in and moisture moving out,” Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “Right now, though, it looks like enough moisture will be left behind near the cold front as temperatures fall to allow for a change to some scattered flurries and light snow showers early Saturday.”

Monahan added the best chance of snow flurries is mainly west and northwest of Atlanta up to the north Georgia mountains.
It is possible up to around an inch of snow could fall in higher elevations of the north Georgia mountains. Accumulations are likely to be isolated at best around metro Atlanta.
“You should check back over the next few days as this forecast will be evolving,” Monahan said. “The question is how much moisture will be left behind as the cold air moves in.”

Monahan said the temperatures will be very cold over the weekend with highs only in 30s.
It’s not out of the question to see temperatures like these in March. The average last freeze in Atlanta isn’t until March 23. Download the Severe Weather Team 2 Weather App to stay ahead of the cold and potential snow flakes.
