NEWTON COUNTY, Ga — The Newton County Sheriff’s Office has now identified the car they believe is involved in the disappearance of a missing paralyzed Newton County man.
On February 23, Newton County deputies responded to a fire at the home of Melvin Cooksey on Mote Road in Covington. Cooksey hasn’t been seen since.
Deputies said Cooksey is paralyzed on his left side.
Deputies believe that Cooksey left the scene of the fire in a white Ford Focus with a Kansas license plate. Deputies said the vehicle’s tag was stolen in early February, and it does not return to the car.

This car was seen by a neighbor leaving Cooksey’s home 30 minutes before the fire.
Cooksey’s family and friends have not seen or heard from him since the fire and are concerned for his wellbeing, according to deputies.
