Spalding 11-year-old killed by stray bullet remembered for her smile, beautiful personality

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — Balloons are usually meant for birthday parties. Instead, family and friends bought them to remember the life of an 11-year-old girl who was killed by a stray bullet.

“I’m missing her in class. I don’t see you anymore. I can’t see your smile no more.”

Asijah Love Jones died last Tuesday at 1 a.m. in her own bedroom when someone shot up her Spalding Heights apartment. You can see the bullet holes outside her bedroom.

“We all woke up to some loud noise. We weren’t in the room. My baby ain’t moving,” her father Marcus Jones said.

The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office says Asijah was the victim of a stray bullet, which infuriates those who knew her family.

“You shouldn’t have to be scared living in your own house. Your kids should be safe at home,” a family friend told Channel 2.

Friends and family are calling on the police and community to work together while they remember Asijah.

“Asijah, you were pretty on the inside and outside. I hope you are in a better place now. I love you. Rest in peace,” one of her classmates and friends said.

Jones would have celebrated her 12th birthday next month. A GoFundMe is asking for donations to help with her homegoing services.
