There is a new ramp for commuters in north Fulton who use Interstate 285 and Georgia 400 to get to work.
The Georgia Department of Transportation officially opened the Abernathy Road ramp Sunday evening to get onto Ga. 400 south from either direction on Abernathy Road.
Monday is the first time people going to work will use it. Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach drove the new route and ramp on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.
It should be a big help for anyone coming from Sandy Springs or the perimeter area, trying to get on Ga. 400 southbound to get into Buckhead or down to the connector.
Anyone who drives through the area on their commute has seen many closures and constant changes as Ga. 400 and Abernathy interchange gets converted into a new diverging diamond.

It’s part of the much bigger Transform 285-400 project that started construction more than four years ago.
The project adds new flyover ramps and collector-distributor lanes to not only help the North-South traffic on Ga. 400 but also the East-West lanes on I-285 from backing up and jamming at the interchange.
An update from the GDOT said it is on schedule to have everything completed by the end of the year.
There is still much work to be done with overnight lane and ramp closures this week from a 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
But many of the new lanes being added for exits on I-285 should be opening in the next 45 days, officials told Channel 2.
