“I couldn’t imagine it being my child,” said Calvin White, who has lived in the area for nearly two decades and is a father, so when he learned this happened, the crime made him cringe.
"It’s definitely a concern for me now that I know it."
It happened here near the basketball courts on April 28.
Investigators said 16-year-old was at the park crying over a best friend who had just committed suicide. As night fell, she said, that’s when a man walked up and asked if she was OK. Not thinking anything of it, she simply told him why she was there.
It was at that point detectives said the suspect offered her a cookie they believe was laced with a drug. Hours later, she told police she woke up in the stranger’s home, naked and in pain, before hurling herself out of a second-floor window and running out to a couple and asking for their help.
Police were called and the teen was taken to Grady where a rape kit was administered.
"It makes me angry as a parent," White said.
Angry, But happy Union City police are doing all they can to patrol the area and catch the man responsible.
"They’ve always been present in the neighborhoods and the city," White said.
Detectives said they’re still combing the area for evidence, looking for things like any nearby surveillance video from that day.
