Gwinnett County Fire Investigators are trying to figure out what caused an apartment building to catch fire and burn early Friday morning leaving four families without a place to stay.

Firefighters say they were called out to the building at 1132 Britain Drive near Lawrenceville just before 1 a.m. The first responders found heavy fire coming the end units of the single story building, with flames shooting through the roof.
Gwinnett Fire says it took about 35 minutes to get the fire under control.
Investigators say nobody was injured but two units suffered heavy damage and the buildings roof was burned off. The two adjoining units firefighters say were damaged while they were getting the fire under control.

Firefighters say residents were able to get out quickly, after the buildings smoke alarms went off. The Red Cross is on site and helping the four adults and three kids impacted by the fire.

At this point fire investigators are still trying to determine a cause as the cleanup continues.
