'I'm not going to die': Teen shares story of survival

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A local teen shot in the head at close range is now sharing his story of survival.

Malik Golar stood in front of dozens Sunday at Greenforest Community Baptist Church in Decatur where he received a standing ovation.

His church community and family call him a miracle.

Malik Golar was shot in the head as he sat in a car outside his mother's home.

Golar told Channel 2’s Rikki Klaus that as he felt his life slipping away, he was determined to survive.

On June 6, Golar was sitting in a car with one of his best friends outside his mom's home in DeKalb County.

Police say Jamal Kerns shot Golar in the head. Golar said he spent a month in the hospital, unable to walk and speak at first.

Doctors said it's a miracle Golar survived. His message to church members: Prayer is powerful.
