Braves pitcher makes Little League pitcher’s day at a sporting goods store

METRO ATLANTA — Imagine for just a minute, you’ve got a son pitching for his Little League team and he’s in dire need of a new glove before a game.

So you take him to a nearby sporting goods store to pick one up, all while your kid is already dressed in his uniform, sporting No. 32, so he’s ready to play.

One metro Atlanta family did exactly that, heading to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Atlanta Monday to find their kid a glove so he could pitch in a game.

While walking through the aisle with gloves, they happened to run into Atlanta Braves pitcher Josh Tomlin who was at the store. Tomlin noticed the kid wearing the same jersey number he does for the Braves. According an employee who saw the whole interaction, the two baseball pitchers struck up a conversation immediately.

The employee said Tomlin spent a long time talking to the youngster about the art of pitching and what baseball glove would work best for someone who pitches in games.

After the discussion wound down, the witness said Tomlin walked over to the glove rack, grabbing a Wilson A2000 glove that retails for just under $300. Tomlin then walked to the cashier, bought the glove, walked back over to the kid and handed it to him.

The employee said Tomlin explained that he also got a protection plan and glove steaming option for the new mitt and proceeded to head out of the store and on with the rest of his day.

No word on how Reggie pitched with his new glove or how he responded to the pitching insight from his new friend, but we suspect the smile has yet to leave his face.
