Riley, Snitker not among finalists for NL MVP, manager of the year

ATLANTA — The Baseball Writers Association of America announced their finalists for the AL and NL MVPs, Cy Young Awards, Rookies of the Year and Managers of the Year on Monday night

But Braves fans won’t find any familiar names on the list this year.

Austin Riley was not named one of the finalists for National League MVP. The same goes for Brian Snitker in the National League Manager of the Year category.

The nominees and winners are decided on ballots sent at the end of the regular season and does not factor in postseason play. If it did, Riley and Snitker would be in the conversation.

The BWAA nominated Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper, Nationals outfielder Juan Soto and Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. for NL MVP.

The Brewers’ Craig Counsell, Giants’ Gabe Kapler and former Cardinals manager Mike Shildt are the nominees for NL Manager of the Year.

The awards will be announced in December along with the full list of voting results. Riley and Snitker will learn then how close they came to making the cut.

The Braves Twitter account had the best response after Riley and Snitker were shut out: posting photos of the two holding the World Series trophy.
