ATLANTA — Before getting hurt during the National League Divisional playoff series, Adam Duvall was a big contributor to the 2020 Atlanta Braves.
Duvall wasn’t able to play in the National League Championship Series and went into the offseason with his status on the team undetermined. The team had the opportunity to tender him a contract if they chose before the slugger hit the free agent market.
We now know Duvall was not offered a new deal with the team and is free to pursue the best contract he can on baseball’s free agent market.

Duvall had a strong regular season, playing in 57 games while batting .237 with 16 home runs and playing good defense in the outfield. Multiple reports say he was being valued at somewhere north of $4 million dollars for the upcoming season and it could have possibly been why the Braves hesitated to make an offer.
It also leaves the team with questions in the outfield with only Ronald Acuna, Jr. locked into the lineup. Rookie Christian Pache’ replaced Duvall on the roster for the NLCS and played very well as a fill-in. The Braves still remain interested in re-signing Marcell Ozuna who is technically an outfielder and was the Designated Hitter (DH) for most of the season and is a free agent.
But the Braves along with the rest of the National League are waiting for Major League Baseball to decide on whether the DH will continue in the NL for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, the Braves did “tender” contract offers to three role players. Relief pitchers Grant Dayton and Luke Jackson along with infielder Johan Camargo all of whom accepted their respective offers all of which were not guaranteed deals. They each will need to make the team next season in order to get paid.
The team also tendered contracts to pitchers Mike Soroka, Max Fried and A.J. Minter and SS Dansby Swanson. The four are all eligible for arbitration and likely will receive raises in 2021 based on their performances.

The moves leave the Braves with 38 of their 40 man active roster spots filled and room to add players if they choose to during the winter.
