Georgia vs. Kentucky: What can you expect Saturday afternoon?

ATHENS, Ga. — Saturday afternoon will provide the Georgia Bulldogs an opportunity to do something they have not had to do in many, many years.

Defend their number 1 ranking.

The top-ranked, 6-0 Bulldogs will square off with the undefeated and 11th ranked Kentucky Wildcats in a national broadcast in arguably the best game of college football’s week seven.

GAME PREVIEW:

Matchup: Georgia Bulldogs, 6-0 overall, 4-0 in the SEC vs. the Kentucky Wildcats 6-0 overall, 4-0 in the SEC.

Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. on Vince Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium

Crowd: 92,000-plus expected

What to expect: It’s a matchup of Georgia’s top ranked defense vs. Kentucky’s running game. Georgia’s defense has given up 33 points in six games. Kentucky has been very good on offense averaging 31 points per game. RB Chris Rodriguez, from McDonough’s Union Grove High School, has rushed for 759 yards and 6 touchdowns in six games.

QB Will Levis has been steady, throwing for seven touchdowns and five interceptions so far this season.

On offense, much like the past two games, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has not said if Stetson Bennett IV will get another start or J.T. Daniels will be back under center. Kentucky’s defense has been pretty stout in 2021, giving up just 17 points a game this season.

A win sends UGA into their bye week with a 7-0 record, they would likely remain there ahead of their rivalry game with Florida which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30.

While a loss would not end their hope of playing in the College Football Playoff, it would make the task much harder as they’d be a game behind Kentucky in the SEC East. The winner of the East would make it to the SEC Championship game. The winner of the championship game would likely qualify for the playoff.
