Take a look inside Cobb County’s tallest building: a 420-foot elevator testing facility

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — For the first time, Channel 2 Action News received an inside look at the newest – and tallest building in Cobb County.

It also just might be the most unusual -- it is TKE’s new elevator test tower.

“This is where the magic happens,” said TKE president Kevin Lavallee. “It’s why we invested over 200 million dollars to be here.”

At 420 feet, the building is already known for its tremendous height, but what’s inside the building stands out even more.

It’s filled with almost nothing but elevators.

Part of TKE’s new North American headquarters at The Battery Atlanta, it’s where the company can test the latest and greatest in elevator technology.

“You think about elevators you see in movies but there’s a lot more than that that you haven’t seen,” said Lavallee.

Right now much of it is still under construction, but how about an elevator that can move horizontally? Or two elevators that can operate in the same shaft.

Those are just some of the products TKE’s president says they plan to test in the building.

“This is really the heartbeat of our company, to get us into the 22nd century,” said Lavallee. “We’re thinking about it now. What are our products moving forward?”

The building stands 27 stories tall, and also features an environmental chamber where engineers can test elevators in extreme weather conditions.

TKE’s headquarters will bring 900 jobs to Cobb County.

The company plans to open the facility in February.
