Investigators said Ivan Bubba Rawles III, a lineman for Delta Electric, was finishing a service call when he was attacked, WLBT reported.

Deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office told WTVA that Rawles’ truck got stuck as he was finishing a call at a home, and when he got out of the truck, a neighbor’s five pit bulls attacked him.

Describing the attack as “vicious,” deputies said neighbors heard Rawles’ screams and ran to help, WJTV reported.

Michael Ray Mabry, whose home Rawles had just finished working at, told WJTV he ran outside with a weapon and fired it into the air to scare the dogs. During the incident, one dog was killed.

A second neighbor, a nurse, ran out to help Rawles until first responders arrived, WLBT reported.

Investigators told WTVA that the dogs’ owner, who was not in compliance with the county’s pit bull ordinance, killed the remaining four dogs.

The victim underwent “several hours” of surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, according to WLBT.

Investigators said charges are pending against the dogs’ owner.
