GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The state has warned Gwinnett County and its cities to work out their differences or they will have to stop using radar and laser to catch speeders.
Neither side can agree on how to divide up expenses for some services. Until they do, the state will not give financial assistance, grants, loans or permits. That includes permits that expire in December and January to use radar and laser.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Jeff Dore spoke with drivers who were both happy and concerned about the radar permit controversy.
"I don't think that there should be speed traps," said one driver.
"So they need to get their act together. They really do, so these speed traps can be out here to keep the roads safe for us in Gwinnett," said driver Michael Henry.
Dore spoke with several people involved in the political sides of Gwinnett County and he said they did not sound optimistic they would work everything out by the end of the year.
But residents should remember, police can still use radar now, the state patrol will not be affected and police said they were catching speeders long before they had radar and they can do it again.
