Wait 2 Text: A Channel 2 primetime special

ATLANTA — Channel 2 steers Georgia drivers toward safer choices in an important primetime special, “Wait 2 Text.”

The show, hosted by Channel 2 Action News anchors Fred Blankenship and Linda Stouffer, tackles texting and distracted driving head-on.

Blankenship introduces viewers to the family of Caleb Sorohan, a Morgan County teen who lost his life in a car accident. Sorohan was driving…texting…and killed instantly.  "He was just a normal kid, he was just like everyone else and it happened to him," Sorohan's brother, Alex, told Channel 2.

The Sorohan family’s emotional interview reminds viewers that this tragedy can strike anyone without warning.  Viewers also learn how this inspiring family has turned their heartache into a mission for change.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, nine people die in a distracted driving-related accident every day, and more than 1000 are injured.  Stouffer gives viewers a look at the hard road to recovery through the story of a 23-year old Georgia woman who suffered life-changing injuries after an accident with a distracted driver.

Information & Resources:

"Drivers who text behind the wheel threaten their life and the lives of everyone else on the road," said Tim McVay, vice president and general manager of Channel 2 WSB-TV. "We hope that this Channel 2 special will bring the importance home to our viewers that accidents caused by distracted driving are 100% preventable." McVay adds, "Running this special in primetime reinforces Channel 2's commitment to improving the safety on our roads and gives us all a reason to 'Wait 2 Text.'"

And in a memorable demonstration, “Wait 2 Text” shows viewers the road test most drivers would fail and how that test is shifting the driving habits of those who take it.  Channel 2 also explores a variety of proposed high-tech solutions to distracted driving, and asks the question, “Do these tools really help or are they equally distracting?”
