DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Some DeKalb County residents say their mail is not being delivered, and now they have been given a small window to pick it up at the U.S. Post Office.
Channel 2’s Craig Lucie went to the Fairington Village Condominiums in Lithonia where residents told him it’s frustrating considering they pay HOA fees and say nothing has been done to fix their mailboxes.
Eric Bonds and many residents at the Fairington Village condos in Lithonia say the mail box issue is creating possible credit issues for them.
“It’s real frustrating. We can’t get our mail our bills, cable bills, light bills. We can’t get our mail and got to go to the post office only on Saturday,” Bonds said.
Mail service has been suspended indefinitely because of the state the mailboxes are currently in. The doors swing open and someone used a crow bar to pry the entire door covering the individual boxes open.
“They send stuff in the mail, and I don’t get it sometimes. I don’t get it because it goes back. I don’t even know what’s going on,” said Lucille Weaver who also lives in the condos.
Lucie and a Channel 2 Action News photographer spotted a bird’s nest in someone’s mail box and envelopes scattered all over the ground.
Paper signs posted around the property and near the post office’ front door state new rules for residents.
“They say we can only come Saturdays between 1 and 5 p.m. because there are so many people. They have so much mail that they don’t have enough people at the post office to get our mail every day,” Bonds said.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to the property management company and they said someone would be in contact with us. Lucie also left a message for the post office’s public information officer.
“I want to see the mailboxes fixed so I don’t have to go post office every Saturday to my mail,” Bonds said.
The property management company told residents they can't fix the mailboxes because some people quit paying the HOA fees.
Residents Lucie spoke with say they are paying their share, and it’s not fair. We will update this story if there are any repairs or new developments.
