Suspect in homicide recently released from prison on murder conviction

ATLANTA — The brother of a 19-year-old murder victim spoke only to Channel 2 Action News about what happened the night his brother was killed.

Channel 2's Jessica Jaglois confirmed with investigators that the suspect, Michael Parks, was recently released after serving time for another murder.

The victim's brother, Tori Anderson, said he and his 19-year-old brother Lewis had no idea the person they were staying with recently had been released from prison.

"When I found out you did 15 for murder, I was like, 'OK. I see why," Anderson said.

Anderson said he and his brother were staying with Parks' girlfriend to save money for their own place.

But after weeks of growing tension, Anderson said he was hiding in his room when he heard a single gunshot.

"My brother got shot. He dropped in the hallway, he died in my face and I couldn't do nothing to help him," Anderson said.

Atlanta police immediately began looking for 32-year-old Michael Parks but he eluded officers for five weeks.

Police cornered him Tuesday around dinner time at an Extended Stay motel in Clayton County.

Anderson said he isn't concerned with Parks.

"It's still not going to bring my brother back," Anderson said.

He's left missing his only brother; the one who loved to draw and the one he never was able to say he was proud of.

"I remember when he first drew them and he came to me and said, 'Man what do you think of these? I really wish I could've told him," Anderson said.

Anderson's parents are also dead which only leaves him and his sister.

As for Parks, he's in jail and so is his girlfriend, charged with harboring a fugitive.
