HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A Henry County restaurant failed its health inspection in part because of a bug problem.
The Silver Star Deli had several dozen violations, including a food product in the cooler that was a week and a half past the expired date, and flies in the food prep area. The inspector also noted seeing live roaches and flies in the food preparation areas.
Other violations included no handwash cleanser at the hand-washing sink in the food prep area, observed raw chicken stored above raw fish in the reach-in cooler and the person in charge at the time of inspection was unable to answer basic food safety questions.
The inspection was done on Friday July 25 but the inspector found that the milk in the cooler in the restaurant was dated July 5.
In all, the inspector noted 36 violations.
Channel 2's Carol Sbarge went the restaurant to find out what they are doing about the problems.
The owner declined to do an interview or tell us anything about what they are doing except to say they have been cleaning the restaurant.
In the previous inspection in October 2013, the Silver Star Deli got a 99. Most of the violations found in the latest inspection on July 25 were new violations.
Channel 2 Action News will have an update to the score when the restaurant is reinspected.
