Rapper Juvenile reworks classic record “Back that thang up” into Atlanta-based pro-vaccine anthem

ATLANTA — Hip-hop legend Juvenile has turned his twerk-tastic classic into a song that urges all to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The New Orleans native teamed up with fellow New Orleanians D.J. Mannie Fresh and Mia X to cook up the viral hit titled “Vax that thang up.”

The new song sticks to the formula of the 808 heavy drum patterns mixed with the sounds of several string instruments but with many different lyrics.

The newly produced track plays on the nostalgia of the classic, but it’s tailored to the current pandemic the world is facing.

The recently released video even pays homage to the original that used a New Orleans playground as the backdrop.

The new video uses Atlanta, the new unofficial culture capital of America, as the backdrop. West End Park, located on Atlanta’s westside, served as the location for the video.

The song is part of an ad campaign created for a client by Atlanta ad agency Majority. The video was directed by another Atlanta company, Motion Family.

Juvenile, Mia X and Mannie Fresh use light-hearted lyrics as a motivator to get young people vaccinated. Their target audience is one of the age groups with the lowest vaccination rates nationally.

So please “Vax that thang up” and not let COVID-19 take over — much like Cash Money did in the 99 and seemingly every year after as this timeless classic lives on.
