Police release surveillance video in jewelry store armed robbery

ATLANTA — Atlanta police have released surveillance video from a weekend jewelry heist at Greenbriar Mall in hopes someone will recognize the men who held up the store.

Investigators said the men also shot off a round before running out of the store with thousands of dollars in jewelry.

The video shows the two men walk into the store on Oct. 20, pretending to be customers. A store employee helps them look at a watch and possibly some chains in the display case.

"They took the jewelry at gunpoint and then they fired a shot through one of the jewelry displays," Officer Emma Mills told Channel 2's Ryan Young.

The video shows the men pull out the guns, and one of the men shows an Uzi.

The owner told Channel 2 Action News what went down during the robbery.

"Two guys walked in to see jewelry and then they pulled out a gun on my husband and another employee," the owner said, asking not to be identified.

Since then, Atlanta police detectives have been searching for the two men.

"The video is decent. It shows the two black males coming in, both males with dreads, possible of African, Jamaican descent, both had accents," Mills said.

Sources tell Young the store was wiped for prints in hopes of identifying the two men.

"They shopped around for jewelry, left the store, came back and they took approximately about $10,000 in jewelry," Mills said.

Police believe the two men may also be tied to another area jewelry store robbery.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
