Police: Patient shot hospital visitor

DALTON, Ga.,None — Dalton police have arrested a hospital patient suspected of shooting a man who was visiting a relative.

Police said Andrew Desimone, 24, left his room at Hamilton Medical Center around 5 a.m. without permission. While security looked for him, he allegedly encountered Kevin Bradford, who was visiting a relative at the hospital, in the parking lot.

Bradford asked Desimone for a lighter and Desimone pulled a gun from his car and shot Bradford, 27, in the abdomen, police said.

Desimone then got in his car and drove to his home on Holly Grove Drive, where officers found him based on a tip, police said.

Bradford collapsed in a nearby stairwell, where he was found by security officers who were looking for Desimone and taken to the emergency room.

Federal law prevents the hospital from releasing the reason for Desimone’s hospitalization.

Desimone was taken to the Whitfield County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Investigators said there is no known connection between Desimone and Bradford.
