Police investigate report of teen's attempted abduction

KENNESAW, Ga. — Reports of the attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl have Cobb County parents and children on edge.

Around 3 p.m. Friday, police told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt they have identified the person involved but have not charged him. They said they are questioning him, and he is cooperating.

"I was just surprised to hear that this had happened here," resident Diana Drescher told Cavitt.

Drescher was shocked when her son came home from school to tell her about the incident at the bus stop. A classmate said a strange man tried to abduct her as she made her way to the stop at the front of the Shiloh Green apartments in Kennesaw.

"He just described a girl he knew that he'd talked to before had said that someone had tried to assault, that a person had assaulted her," Drescher said.

A relative told Cavitt the victim was able to call 911 as the man was harassing her.  Then, the bus driver was coming down the street to make his stop and saw the man dash off, the relative said.

The bus driver took the 14-year-old and the others at the bus stop to Barber Middle School, where they were met by a school officer who started sorting out their stories.

The description of the assailant was vague: a man in a white T-shirt who fled in a small white car.

"It makes me nervous because I bar tend and get home at 3 in the morning," resident Jana Bryant said.

The apartment management sent out a note to residents warning them about the incident.

"I did try to explain to (my son) that sometimes these kind of things happen more to girls than boys, but he still does need to be careful because he walks to the school bus stop alone," Drescher said.

School officials have not sent any notices home. They said they are still awaiting word from police about what they've determined.
