ATLANTA — Atlanta police and Georgia State Patrol are investigating a bank robbery and chase in Virginia Highlands Friday.
According to police, the Wells Fargo at 979 Virginia Avenue was robbed around 10 a.m.
One man inside the bank told Channel 2's Wendy Corona that before walking in he noticed a white SUV left running in the handicapped spot out front.
Other eyewitnesses said there were three men all dressed in black, faces covered and armed. They sped off on Todd Road where it turned into a chase.
GSP was called in to assist, and troopers are actively searching for the vehicle.
Authorities said the chase ended at 183 Mt. Zion Blvd. They are still searching for the robbers.
While responding to the chase, a Clayton County police vehicle was involved in a crash with six other vehicles on Highway 138 and Fielder Road.
There were no reports of serious injuries but a few people were transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
