ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a deadly stabbing near a busy area of Midtown Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon.
The stabbing happened near Peachtree and 12th Street around noon.
Channel 2 Action News has learned that two men were fighting, and one of the men was stabbed.
“We have multiple witness statements saying they were in a physical fight before the incident which ultimately led up to the stabbing,” Lt. Daniel Jenson with the Atlanta Police Department said.

Investigators say nearby Watershed employees ran to help the victim, but he died on the scene.
The other man stayed on the scene until police arrived and was cooperative as they questioned him.
“When we arrived, the suspect was on the patio waiting for the police,” Jenson said.
Police said the stabbing may be a case of self-defense.
“If the suspect was in legitimate fear for his life in receiving egregious bodily harm then he would be justified to defend himself,” Jenson said.
The man killed was not identified but was said to be in his 30s.
