There's a major push to change the name of a Paulding County street.
Channel 2′s Audrey Washington was in Dallas, where a large group of protesters gathered Saturday night to change the name of Confederate Avenue.
Protesters told Washington that the name change is long overdue.
"It's not just a street," one protester said. "Symbols matter."
Just this week, after much controversy, crews removed a Confederate monument from Decatur Square in DeKalb County. It was one of the many Confederate monument removals that happened throughout the country in the wake of the Black Live Matter movement.

“Not everybody who lives here wants that street to be named that. A lot of people are ready for change,” a protester in Dallas told Washington. “They believe what they believe, but we know what we know and we know all people are supposed to be equal.”
During the protest Saturday, a small group of counter protesters showed up in support of keeping the street's name. Police worked to keep both protest groups apart.
Still, protesters in favor of the street rename said they were in no way deterred by the counter protesters.
Their mission was clear.
“People love to say, well if you don’t like it you can just leave. But if you love somebody do you leave them when they’re hurting? When they’re down?” a protester said. “No. I love this town. It’s a nice place to live. I’ve made amazing friends. You don’t just leave when it’s in turmoil. You fix it.”
Organizers told Washington they’ve contacted the Dallas mayor about the street name change but haven’t heard back.
