GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators are looking for evidence on a car suspected in a hit-and-run that killed an injured motorcyclist.
Officers arrested the car's owner Sunday.
Arrest warrants say Jacob O'Reilly not only ran over the fallen motorcyclist and killed him, but also struck another man who was calling 911 and trying to help.
As O'Reilly appeared in court at the Gwinnett County Jail, a short distance away, investigators looked over his car.
O'Reilly's 1993 Honda Accord has some obvious signs of damage to the front end as it sits in the Gwinnett police evidence garage.
In court Monday O'Reilly told the judge he paid $200 for the car.
Police say O'Reilly was behind the wheel July 26 when Scott Moseley was struck and killed on Gravel Springs Road.
Police say Moseley had just wrecked his motorcycle and was laying injured in the middle of the road. The driver took off as other motorists watched in horror.
"We need an ambulance and police immediately," a caller said on a 911 recording.
On Sunday, Gwinnett police set up a checkpoint along Gravel Springs, trying to find witnesses to the incident.
As an officer drove through nearby parking lots, he says he spotted O'Reilly's car at the Mall of Georgia.
"The suspect was ultimately arrested at his home in Auburn, Georgia," said Cpl. Deon Washington with the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Moseley's parents laid their son to rest last week. They didn't want to talk on camera Monday, but last week, Moseley's father had a message for the then unidentified driver.
"I wouldn't want to be you, I wouldn't want to have to live with this," said father Jon Moseley.
Moseley's mother sent Channel 2's Tony Thomas an email Monday morning saying in part:
"We appreciate the diligence and professionalism of the Gwinnett County Police Department which led to the arrest of the hit-and-run driver who killed our son. This tragic accident is heartbreaking for both families. Please pray for all of us."
O'Reilly remains in the Gwinnett County Jail with no bond.
