Here are the Georgia runoff voting dates you need to know

ATLANTA — Georgia’s runoff races are about to be the center of the political universe. Control of the Senate rests on what happens here.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • If you didn’t vote in the Nov. 3 election, you can still vote in the Jan. 5th runoff. You just need to make sure you are registered to vote.
  • The deadline to register to vote for the runoff is Dec. 7.
  • Early voting starts Dec. 14.
  • You can already request an absentee ballot and the deadline to request one is Dec. 31 by 4:30 p.m.
  • Election day is Jan. 5.

DeKalb Elections Director Erica Hamilton says to make sure you educate yourself with what’s on the ballot in January and have a plan whether you’re voting in person or by mail.

Hamilton also said she and her staff are using their experience from the general election to prepare for January.

“We began counting a week prior to the election and we just worked about a 9-hour shift making sure all those ballots were counted and ready to go. We’re preparing for this January 5th election to look just similar as the November 3rd elections. We’re making preparations and bringing in resources so it’s as successful as the November 3rd election was,” Hamilton said.

GEORGIA VOTER GUIDE:

Hamilton says all secure drop boxes will be back at their locations by Monday.

The same rules also apply, when you turn in your absentee ballot into one of the drop boxes. It has to be in by 7 p.m. on election day.
