BUFORD, Ga. - Major changes are coming to a popular Georgia tourist attraction, and a big-name musician is part of the plan.

The Virgil Williams family, which owns and operates Lanier Islands, has put $80 million into the resort since 2005. It's got a storied history, and now it's on the brink of change again.

Lanier World -- the waterpark on Lake Lanier Islands -- is closed and set to undergo a multi-million dollar transformation over the next few years.

Safeharbor, a Knoxville-based development company is coming in.

"They are going to come on to manage operations of our campgrounds, our harbor and marinas, and also Lanier World," said Missy Burgess, Public Relations with Lanier Islands.

Changes are coming to Sunset Cove, and part of this will be re-branding the food and beverage service at Lanier World.

Margaritaville Development, which is famous for the Jimmy Buffet-themed restaurants and hotels, is a big part of the transformation.

Everyone involved are being tight-lipped about how much money this will cost and when it will be finished.
