DULUTH, Ga. — A City of Duluth police officer is in the hospital Saturday morning after his cruiser was hit and severely damaged in a crash.
Duluth police said the crash happened around 4 a.m. on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Police said the officer was traveling through the intersection at Abbotts Bridge Road on a green light when he was hit by a Ram 3500.
The other driver got out of his car and ran from the scene.
Duluth police said their officer was transported to a nearby hospital and was in critical but stable condition. His identity has not been released.
A photo taken at the scene showed the unit on the side of the road with heavy damage.

Another Duluth officer was able to track the suspect down. Eduardo Gutierrez, 30, was charged with DUI, reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle, felony hit and run, failure to obey a traffic control device as well as license and seatbelt citations.
