JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest of a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy on Thursday.
John Pursley, 53, of Jefferson, is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count of violation of oath of public officer.

Pursley turned himself in to the Jackson County Jail without incident, officials said.
On May 10, GBI was asked to investigate an occurrence inside the jail focused on use of force by Pursley.

The investigation indicated that Pursley physically assaulted an inmate in the jail after an argument between him and the inmate, the investigation found.
GBI said it will continue its independent investigation and provide findings to the Jackson County District Attorney for prosecution.
