Ga. State student killed in icy I-75 crash

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a Georgia State student was killed Saturday morning on Interstate 75 North.

The sheriff’s office said 20-year-old Malik Jordan, of Albany, was driving a Lincoln Navigator on I-75 near mile marker 188 when he hit a patch of ice on a bridge over Georgia 42. Jordan lost control of his SUV, left the roadway and hit a tree.

Jordan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told authorities that the Navigator had been traveling over 80 mph just before the accident.

This is the first fatal car accident of 2017 in Monroe County, and the contributing factors are both inclement weather and speed.
