Frantic search for missing East Point man

EAST POINT, Ga. — A man has been missing for a month now, and his family thinks something bad has happened to him.

Mike Edwards lives in a neighborhood in East Point.

Police have searched his house, taken his computer and a phone. Nothing has turned up to indicate what might have happened to him.

Edward's family made missing posters in an effort to find the 33-year-old.

He was last seen April 22 leaving his home on MLK in Atlanta headed towards a MARTA train station just around the corner.

"We don't know if he got on the MARTA. We don't know what happened after that. (He) was supposed to call brother when he got home," cousin Belita Gary-Fonville said.

His cousin told Channel 2's Liz Artz that Edwards has a child in eighth grade to whom he is close and he has never gone more than a day or two without speaking to someone in the family.

"He works with his brother. His brother has his own business and they work side by side -- not even reaching out to his brother," Gary-Fonville said.

East Point police are equally concerned.

Detectives told Artz they have searched Edwards' house, combed his Facebook page and tracked incoming calls on his cellphone.

"He hasn't made any calls. When you call his phone, it's dead," Gary-Fonville said.

A friend who did not want to be identified was the last known person to see Mike Edwards. Edwards left the friend's studio around 7 p.m. that Friday evening.

"I'm not the only one worried for him. We're all over here worried for him, keep putting our prayers up," a friend said.

Police say they have no reason to believe Mike Edwards left of his own free will.

Police and the family are concerned for his safety and ask anyone who may know anything about his whereabouts to call East Point police immediately.
