DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — In early July, a 13-year-old boy and his 45-year-old mentor were killed after a drive-by shooting that targeted a home during a sleepover.
Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes reported how the shooting resulted in the deaths of Demarcus Shirley, 13, and Chauncey Newman on July 2.
It was recently revealed that police had help catching their suspects, with the assistance coming in the form of a high-technology security robot from Undaunted.
Channel 2 Action News has reported on Undaunted before, when its remote-operated robotic security dogs assisted the Atlanta Police Department with capturing a robbery suspect at an apartment complex in the city.

In a statement shared with Channel 2 Action News by Undaunted, DeKalb County Police Sgt. Elise Wells said video of one of the suspects from the company helped in the case.
The DeKalb County Police Department announced the arrests of two suspects, Keyshun Webb, 21, and an unnamed 16-year-old in August, both accused of murder.

Webb was caught in Hampton, Ga., according to police. The unnamed teen was captured by U.S. Marshals and DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies after a nearly weeklong search.
“Undaunted Robotic Security aided in the investigation by providing video of one suspect. The video was one piece of evidence detectives used to identify and arrest the suspects,” Wells said.
After the deadly shooting, Shirley’s friends told Fernandes that they were just hanging out and having a sleepover at the home.
The update on the case, as far as Undaunted’s assistance leading to the arrests, comes as the Atlanta-based company continues to expand where its robotic security fleet is deployed.
The company emphasized that while its dogs are robotic, they’re still fully controlled by people. The fleet of more than 100 human-operated security robots works through the use of cameras, two-way audio and patrolling.
Undaunted said it is “not autonomous AI,” and is “safer for operators, consistent coverage” and about half the cost of traditional security.
