DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — MARTA says they are running ahead of schedule in replacing portions of their tracks in DeKalb County, but that’s causing some commuters to be behind schedule.
Channel 2′s Michele Newell learned that the Red Line Train Service is suspended south of the Dunwoody station until the end of Wednesday.

The trains will continue running between the North Springs and Dunwoody stations.
The Lenox station will be the transfer point for Red Line Shuttle Service.
“If you’re not used to something it throws you off a little,” said Timothy Pettus, who told Newell he rides the train five days a week.
Pettus says he’s trying to adjust to the delays, but is glad it won’t last long.
“I can’t get the redline now, it comes here. So really the difference is just that I’m coming to Lenox instead of the Buckhead station,” he explained.

Senior Project Manager Anthony Riviere said once these upgrades are finished, the trains will be able to go faster.
“Every once in a while we do stuff like this because equipment runs out, and so we have to run slower in those areas. By changing out this equipment, we’re able to let the trains run at a higher rate of speed, which allows us to run more trains in a shorter period of time.”
Riviere also says that MARTA is offering Uber and Lyft vouchers, that can be used twice daily, to those who were affected.
Rider Ebenezer Sefiw says he would have been in a tough spot without the voucher.
“Usually I get off from Five Points and go to Dunwoody, but since the track stopped at Lenox, I had to get off at Lenox and use the voucher they provided,” he explained. “It would have been difficult [without the voucher]. I probably would have had to get a ride from someone else maybe.”

MARTA is also offering free bus shuttles to move customers between the Dunwoody, Medical Center, Buckhead and Lenox rail stations.
Most of the riders Newell spoke with say they’re just glad the temporary delays will result in long-term improvements.
