Two stores lost in Gwinnett County fire

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County firefighters battled a strip mall fire Friday night near the intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and Spaulding.

Gwinnett County Fire spokesman Jarrod Barrett said they got a call about the fire at about 9:15 p.m. at the Spalding Center strip mall near the intersection.

At about 10:30 p.m., Barrett said they had most of the fire knocked down and would be moving in to put out possible hot spots.

Cara Vasil was driving by and saw where the fire started before it spread.

"It was just flames, but not as crazy till about 10 minutes later than that ignited and looked like it just burst into flames," Vasil said.

Barrett said firefighters worked quickly get the fire under control to prevent it from spreading to a gas station nearby and other businesses.

Two businesses, a dog groomer and construction office, were damaged in this fire.

Firefighters spent the morning pouring water on debris, concerned about a flare up at the large structure.

Pet Boutique Assistant Manager Mary Trotter said the pet grooming company has been in the same place for 27 years.

"That was our life, and just completely destroyed. Completely," Trotter said.

The pet grooming business was closed, and no animals were inside at the time of the fire.

The grooming business had paper files that were destroyed in the fire. They are asking their clients to reach out to them.

They can call management at 336-407-5717.
