CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia man is facing multiple federal charges after authorities said he bought dozens of guns using a fake ID.
Dawuan Na’jee Williams was indicted by a federal grand jury on Aug. 17 and arraigned on Aug. 26.
The 39-year-old had been convicted previously of numerous felonies, including burglary, robbery, terroristic threats, kidnapping, aggravated battery, and criminal use of personal identification information.

“Convicted felons are prohibited from legally possessing and purchasing firearms under any circumstance,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Kurt R. Erskine. “Criminals who try to circumvent these restrictions by stealing and using the identities of law-abiding citizens will be prosecuted.”
Federal authorities began investigating Williams in May 2021, when police officers in New Jersey recovered semi-automatic pistol that Williams allegedly purchased in Georgia just eight days earlier.

In July 2021, police officers recovered a second semi-automatic pistol from the scene of a shooting in Tallahassee. Federal agents traced the firearm to a Georgia purchase made with Williams’ identification card.
Later that month, federal agents searched a Jonesboro home where Williams rented a room. In one of the bedrooms, agents recovered four guns that had been purchased with Williams’ fake ID, empty firearm boxes for other guns purchased with that ID, a red baseball cap, and a red Gucci belt.
Williams was arrested that same day. He is facing charges of making false statements to federally licensed firearms dealers, aggravated identity theft and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
