ATLANTA — You are invited to help remind young hospital patients that they are loved.

Children’s Hospital of Atlanta is planning their annual Lights of Love event on Thursday, to make Valentine’s Day meaningful for children in their hospitals.

Volunteers, family members, members of the community – including Emory Police and DeKalb County firefighters – will stand together and shine lights at patients as they shine lights back from their room windows.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a flashlight or use the flashlight on their phone.

Wearing red is encouraged.

Flashlights will be illuminated from 6:00 to 6:05 p.m. at Hughes Spalding, from 6:30 to 6:35 p.m. at Egleston and from 7:30 to 7:35 p.m. at Scottish Rite.

“It’s profound getting to pause for a few brief but meaningful minutes to show our patients how many virtual valentines they have out there,” said Ansley Johnson, Volunteer Services Coordinator at Children’s. “Seeing the magnitude of flickering lights from inside the halls sends our patients a reminder that they are loved and can continue fighting.”
