HAMPTON, Ga. — Police are searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run in Clayton County.

On Monday, just after midnight, Clayton County officers were called to Panhandle Road in Hampton.
According to officials, a passerby told dispatch a man, later identified as Markevius Clayton, 25, was lying on the side of the road.

When officers arrived, Clayton authorities said they found the victim dead on the shoulder of the road.
Police learned that a vehicle was traveling northbound on Panhandle Rad when the accident happened.
Clayton County police believe the vehicle is a white or light-colored 2018 Ford Fusion or Ford Escape. Officials say the vehicle would be missing the right-side mirror and may also have damage on the right side.

The investigation is ongoing, therefore details are limited.
