Channel 2 WSB-TV donates $50,000 to Adairsville tornado relief

ATLANTA — Channel 2 WSB-TV donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross to aid in relief following last week’s tornado in Adairsville, GA. Tim McVay, vice president and general manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV, and Glenn Burns, chief meteorologist for Severe Weather Team 2, presented the donation to Terri Badour-Duckett, CEO of the American Red Cross of Georgia and Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter.

“On behalf of Cox Enterprises, our parent company, and the James M. Cox Foundation, Channel 2 is proud to donate $50,000 for the American Red Cross to use in relief efforts for those hit so hard last week in Adairsville,” said McVay. “Channel 2 has a rich history of supporting the community we serve. This story continues as the Adairsville community rebuilds, and Channel 2 will be there to report on these efforts as well.”

“The Red Cross is taking care of those in need, giving them temporary shelter and assistance while they begin the process of rebuilding their homes and lives,” said Badour-Duckett. “This donation from Channel 2 and Cox will go a long way in helping the Red Cross care for our fellow Georgians in need.”

According to the National Weather Service, the EF3 tornado that struck the Adairsville area packed 160 mph winds. It was 900 yards wide and on the ground for 22 miles. It was the most damaging of Wednesday's tornadoes in northwest Georgia and was just 6 mph shy of an EF 4 rating.

“Nothing we do is more important than warning our viewers about dangerously severe weather,” said Burns. “It’s at the heart of our team and station’s commitment to the region.”
