COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The generosity of Channel 2 viewers is helping a 911 dispatcher who was diagnosed with ALS.

As of Friday afternoon, more than 200 people have donated nearly $23,000 since Christmas Eve.

Channel 2’s Chris Jose learned the Long family got another big surprise. An anonymous donor dropped off a wheelchair van at Cobb police headquarters.

“They said they were watching WSB. They saw the news report. The interview,” said Cobb police officer Sheldon Long.

Long’s wife, Eulie Long, was diagnosed with ALS in 2017. Last year, she took a medical retirement.

Sheldon Long said a police supervisor called him with the good news.

“He called me and said, ‘Hey, you’re not going to believe this.’ Of course, my first reaction was, ‘If headquarters calls, I’m in trouble.’ Then he said, ‘Someone has dropped off a van. They didn’t want to leave a name or anything and dropped off the title, and two keys for the van,” said Long. “They left and said, ‘It’s for Officer Long.’”

Long doesn’t know the generous donor, but he told Jose he’s thankful.

Eulie Long is unable to speak, but through a voice command on her cell phone, she’s sending her gratitude.

“We never expected this response. We are beyond blessed,” she said.

The Longs will use the money donated on the GoFundMe page to remodel a downstairs bathroom and make it accessible for Eulie.
