• Authorities identify body found in Allatoona Lake

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - Authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in Allatoona Lake.

Cherokee County sheriff’s officials said a boater reported the body just a few yards off the beach at the Kellogg Creek Day Use Area just before 12 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday night, authorities identified the woman as Sheila Ann Carlotta, 33, of Marietta.

Detectives said Carlotta's family and friends told them she was swimming in the area Saturday.

Detectives estimate the body had been in the lake for less than 24 hours. She was found near the beach in approximately 3 feet of water.

Her body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Tuesday.

While detectives are not suggesting foul play, they say they won't leave any bases uncovered.

"Well at this point I don't want to speak about any trauma to the body.  We're going to let the crime lab do a better analysis of the body and we'll go from there," said Baker.
