Residents react on Braves final opening day at Turner Field

ATLANTA — Fifty years after officials tore down a sizable chunk of their neighborhood to build the old Atlanta-Fulton County stadium, Summerhill residents have mixed emotions about the Atlanta Braves' final opening day in southeast Atlanta.

The team will move to Cobb County for the 2017 season.

"I think we're looking forward to having less traffic and things like that, but we'll definitely miss them," said Summerhill resident Missy Davis.

Anthony Quick has lived in Summerhill for the past 14 years.

He's not unhappy to see the Braves leave the area, because he feels the promise of redevelopment will finally come true after so many years.

"Just in the 14 years that we've been here, there's been a lot of promises made about some of the redevelopment that's going to happen in the area," Quick said.  "Fourteen years later, we're still here, and we're still looking for that development."

Carolyn Wilson moved to Summerhill from England 13 years ago.  She's disappointed the Braves are leaving, but at the same time, she's excited about the possibility of Georgia State University's plans to redevelop the area.

"I think the positive impact is going to be that they'll be another opportunity possibly for Georgia State to come and establish something there and bring retail," said Wilson.  "That'll be a good thing."
