Man robbed at gunpoint in shopping center, forced to drive to ATM

ATLANTA — A man says a robber jumped in his car with a gun and demanded money at a busy shopping center in Atlanta.

John Richardson, 70, says he went to Ansley Mall in Midtown on Monday around 3 p.m. to run errands.

He said he had just pulled in and parked when suddenly he was staring down the barrel of a gun.

"He jumped into the car and he had a pistol that he pointed at my head and said, 'Cash,'" Richardson said.

He said he only had a dollar, so with a gun to his head, Richardson was forced to drive to an ATM.

"This guy was clearly not stupid and thought this out pretty well when he did it," he said.

Richardson drove across the parking lot and withdrew some money.

"When the money came out of the machine, I just handed it across the car to him so the camera had a clear view of him," he said.

John Richardson says he was robbed at gunpoint at Ansley Mall.

The victim said he called 911 after the robber ran away.

Richardson said he was calm and not afraid during the encounter.

"I actually had no fear the entire time," he said.

Richardson shared with Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez that he wasn't afraid because he had a brush with death in 2013. He said he was rushed to the hospital after a seizure caused by an unknown heart condition.

Police are searching for the robber. If you have any information on the case, call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
