Fresh Market to close 15 stores, including 2 in metro Atlanta

The Fresh Market is closing 15 locations.

The Fresh Market, a chain of “gourmet” grocery stores priding itself on the “freshest and best local” ingredients, announced Monday that it will close several locations across the country, including two in metro Atlanta.

In all, 15 Fresh Market locations will close. The two in metro Atlanta are located 1679 Ga. 124 Scenic Highway in Snellville and 2480 Briarcliff Road in the North Druid Hills area.

Amy Grossman, a spokesman for the company, said that the Snellville and North Druid Hills locations will close between “two and four weeks.”

In a statement, Fresh Market said it decided to close these 15 stores after an “organizational analysis and careful consideration of the overall growth strategy and long-term financial performance.” The Greensboro, North Carolina-based grocer said it doesn’t expect any more closings in the foreseeable future.

Larry Appel, the CEO of Fresh Market, said the company has been executing a “turnaround plan” over the last eight months. He said that the stores Fresh Market is closing were “underperforming.”

Appel added that Fresh Market will “work to relocate” employees impacted by the closings.

According to a map on the store's website, it operates 15 stores in Georgia, nine of which are in metro Atlanta.

The Snellville location has been open for almost two and a half years.
