Bank robber rides away on scooter in Atlanta, police say

ATLANTA — Investigators say an individual robbed the PNC Bank along Monroe Drive on Tuesday afternoon and then rolled away from the scene on a scooter.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation suggests no firearm was used, but verbal threats were made.

Channel 2’s Brittany Kleinpeter spoke with people who live nearby just hours after the crime, who described how rare such incidents are in that area.

Emily Griffin told Kleinpeter that the Ansley Park neighborhood is typically quiet.

“It’s a pretty safe neighborhood. I feel very safe here overall, so I feel like it’s probably an isolated incident,” Griffin said.

Despite the bold robbery and unusual getaway, residents like Ian Irwin said it won’t stop them from going about their normal routines.

“It’s definitely a great place to live, so you hate hearing something like this. But hey, you live in a big city, and things like this happen. It certainly won’t change my behavior, and I won’t feel any less safe coming to this station because of it,” Irwin said.
