ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms will not be joining President-elect Joe Biden’s cabinet, Channel 2 Action News has confirmed.
A spokesperson for Bottoms said in a statement to Channel 2′s Dave Huddleston that she respectfully declined Biden’s offer.
He did not confirm which role she turned down, but denied reports that it was an ambassador role.
“Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was honored to have been offered a role in the Cabinet, which she respectfully declined,” the statement said. “The Mayor’s focus remains on the people of Atlanta and the great state of Georgia. Out of respect for the process, and the other candidates under consideration, no additional comment will be forthcoming on this matter at this time.”

Bottoms supported Biden early in the presidential race and to many people seemed like a clear pick for his administration.
After the November election, Huddleston spoke exclusively with Bottoms who said her focus was only on Atlanta.
“I have one job and that’s as mayor of Atlanta and I’ll continue to do that job. If anything happens, I’ll let you know, but right now my focus is on Atlanta,” Bottoms said.
The mayor said in the interview that she’s more concerned about the rising COVID-19 numbers across the country.
