Angelina Jolie drops off daughter Zahara for freshman year at Spelman College

ATLANTA — Classes will start back up at Spelman College this week as the historically Black college welcomes at least 545 students in the freshman class.

One of the freshman is Zahara Jolie-Pitts, the daughter of Angelina Jolie. Over the weekend, the Academy Award winner joined hundreds of parents dropping their daughters off for the first time.

The school’s vice president for student affairs posted a video with Jolie as she held back tears.

“All right Miss Jolie can you tell us how does it feel? How does it feel to be a Spelman mom?”

“I’m gonna start crying,” she said.

Jolie announced last month that Zahara would be attending the historically Black college in southwest Atlanta. Instagram videos showed Zahara and her mom celebrating at a sendoff party for Spelman freshmen.

Zahara’s older brothers Maddox and Pax, who were adopted from Cambodia and Vietnam, both attend college in Asia. Jolie has been vocal about her children’s adoptions and how they understand their cultures.

“My daughter is from Ethiopia...and I have learned so much from her. She is my family, but she is an extraordinary African woman,” Jolie told Time Magazine in 2020 interview. “Her connection to her country, her continent is very, it’s her own. It’s something I only stand back in awe of.”

Spelman College is one of 10 historically Black colleges and universities in Georgia. More than 2,100 students from 43 states and 10 countries attend Spelman College.
