73-year-old stroke victim found after walking out of Atlanta hospital

ATLANTA — A family is celebrating today after they found their loved one days after he walked away from an Atlanta hospital.

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington spoke to the man’s family when they first reported him missing last week.

On Wednesday, 73-year-old David Brittain was taken by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital after he suffered a stroke.

On Friday, Carissa Fields says her dad walked out of Grady. She said hospital officials reviewed surveillance video after they discovered the disappearance.

“They issued a code green and then later said they saw him leave the Pratt Street exit at 9:50,” Fields said.

Making matters more dire, Fields said because of the stroke, her father has a hard time communicating. So he can’t tell anyone he needs help.

“The blood clot affected his cognition,” Fields said. “He couldn’t comprehend what people were saying to him and though he was trying to speak, everything would come out gibberish.”

Monday, Fields, her friends and family all walked around Grady Memorial Hospital and handed out a missing persons flyer.

“Walking around and showing people my phone and his picture and things like that, and some of the park areas,” Fields said.

Fields said she worried about her father’s whereabouts and his health, especially now during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Now he’s in this place with over 2,000 cases of COVID and we are terrified,” Fields said.

Overnight Tuesday, Fields posted that her father has been found alive.

On Facebook, she wrote: “It’s all going to be ok now!!! Praise God!”
